Personal note /detailed application:

Introduction/Interests:
I am a passionate mechanical engineer and I recently graduated from Helsinki University of Technology with a distinction. I majored in material mechanics and minored in mechatronics. Some fields that interest me are computer aided design (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), composites, programming, microcontrollers etc. I now wish to gain further expertise in the area of mechanical design/mechatronics, therefore I would like to work in a relevant organisation where I can learn from and interact with experts.

Education:
M.Sc. (Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering (Major: Material Mechanics).
Helsinki University of Technology, Finland.
2011 to 2013, Graduated in Sep. 2013 with Distinction, GPA 4.07/5

B. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering,
K.J.Somaiya College of Engineering (Affiliated to University of Mumbai).
2006 to 2010, Graduated in May 2010 with First Class.

Technical Skills:
CAD/CAE: Solidworks (Good, Certified Solidworks Associate – Mechanical Design), Pro/E (Good), Abaqus FEA (Basics), KiCAD (Good, PCB design).
Programming: Matlab/Simulink (Good), C/Embedded C (Good), Basic Electronics Skills.

Work Experience:
Research Assistant / Thesis Worker at Helsinki University of Technology, Dept. of Applied Mechanics,
June 2012 – August 2013.
Performing fatigue and static tests on bonded and non-bonded napkin ring specimens. Calculating stress intensity factors induced by a crack in a steel body using finite element analysis (Abaqus). The thesis aim was to understand the behaviour of epoxy adhesives for steels at different clamping loads in hybrid (bonded and bolted) joints. Results from two different epoxy adhesives were compared and an analytical damage growth model was made.

Application Engineer at Balluff India, Sep. 2010 - May 2011.
Interfacing the Balluff RFID system with the Mitsubishi Q01UCPU PLC to read and write data to passive tags using Profibus, Ethernet and RS232 protocols. Application of various Balluff products (viz. encoders, proximity switches, transducers etc.) in the field of automation. (Selection of the right sensor/product depending on the application)

Projects:
Field Robot Project, Oct. 2012 to June 2013.
It is a competition for which students build an agricultural robot. I was part of the electrical team, responsible for providing power to all the electronic components of the robot. I was also involved in machining components and electronics troubleshooting. The team was placed 7th out of 19 teams and won the freestyle event. (http://autsys.aalto.fi/en/FieldRE) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiwEosIiLTA).

Product Development Project (http://pdp.fi), Oct. 2011 to May 2012.
The objective of the course was to redesign a pole fuse switch disconnector for Ensto (http://www.ensto.com/en). The old switch was too heavy, ugly, expensive to manufacture and difficult to work with, hence a new switch was designed and two prototypes were made.

Orion Racing India (https://www.facebook.com/orionracing), Sep. 2009 to Sep. 2010.
Participant in Formula student design competition (http://www.formulastudent.de/) held in Hockenheim Ring, Germany for which students design and build an open wheeled race car. My work involved interfacing the Motec ECU with the engine, tuning the engine, engine maintenance and designing a new/better gear shifter drum for the engine. (The team bagged the 3rd place in the cost event 2010 in Germany and was also among the top 8 out of 78 teams for the BOSCH best use of electronics Award.)

Scholarships:
Granted a scholarship (fee waiver) for Master’s Studies at Helsinki University of Technology.
Was Awarded the Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship during Bachelor’s degree.

Language Skills:
English (Native proficiency), Hindi (Native proficiency), Marathi (Limited working proficiency), Punjabi (Limited working proficiency). (Completed Level A1 German language course conducted by Goethe Institut e.V. with grade good.) (Completed 1A Finnish language and culture course during master’s studies).
