Shola Adeyemi is a trained Mathematician, Statistician and Operations Researcher with a wide experience in the past years ranging from academics to industry working on both theory and practical problems; from distributions of order statistics, damage detection in civil engineering structure, psychometrics, health and social care modeling, health services research, biostatistics, biometrics, epidemiology among other interesting areas. In today’s world of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of policy and programme performance, I have got the technical expertise to develop, nurture and implement M&E systems in any organization.

He has developed the following skills from academic studies and working in the industry either independently or as part of teams.

• Knowledge of strategic planning and budget processes related to non-clinical activities
• Ability to supervise, mentor, and manage statisticians setting work plan objectives, conducting annual performance reviews, managing resources and work-load.

I have worked with many experts with varying expertise providing statistical consulting; primarily to health care managers, clinicians, clinical researchers, virologists, students etc. from a wide range of background.

I started my research and academic career at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria where I worked in theoretical statistics deriving recurrent relations for moment of order statistics and distribution theory, rising from an Assistant Lecturer to a Lecturer I in Statistics. Also, teaching of statistics and mathematics courses to undergraduates and postgraduates in Physical, Social and Medical Sciences was an important part of this role.

My PhD research was in applying random effects models to extract useful information on patient
flow, by capturing patient pathways through the health care system using the United Kingdom Hospital Episodes Statistics (UK HES) and University College London Neonatal Hospital data.
This contribution to knowledge was a runner up in the UK operations research society prize for a body of research leading to an award of a PhD for 2009.

During the PhD period, teaching of discrete mathematics and statistical modelling to undergraduate and postgraduate students, respectively, was part of my responsibilities.

I also gained consultancy experience through consulting works executed, by the research group that I belonged, for many Primary Care Trusts in England on specific aspects of National Health Service evidence generation for service evaluation and re-design.

After my PhD, I have worked as a Biomedical Statistician in the pharmaceutical sector analyzing pooled clinical trials and cohort data to extract useful information which lead to the development of a tool used in the clinical management of HIV. This tool has since been approved by the FDA for the clinical management of HIV therapies. Performing proficiency analyses on laboratory data to ensure compliance was also a major part of this job. I developed a statistical tool for monitoring the precision, stability and reproducibility of laboratory tests.

Currently, I worked as Research Manager in Market Access Analytics and Policy supporting research in infectious disease and vaccines using observational health records, Thomson (US), I3 (US), Pharmetrics (US), GPRD (UK), etc for knowledge discovery used as real-world evidence of drug utilization and course of diseases. Another part of this position is supporting building of disease (transmission) model to support pricing and reimbursement of the company’s pharmaceutical products.
