Research Experiences:
So far, I gained extensive experience in different area of knowledge related to river engineering and sediment management in dam reservoir such as:
1. December 2010 – September 2011
As a research assistant at Kyoto University, I contribute since 2010 to the development of a new hydro-suction dredging system. The involved parties had serious concerns regarding the low efficiency of the current system used to dredge the deposited sediment from dam reservoirs. Practical solutions based on the outcome of our experimental research could increase the efficiency of this system by 20% and save a considerable amount of money. Furthermore, my assistance in this project resulted in the doubling of the number of related academic publications: one journal (JSCE) and three international conference papers have been published to date.

2. October 2011 – March 2012
Using radio frequency particle tracing technique we have investigated the trap efficiency of coarse material in flood mitigation dams.

3. April 2012 – May 2013
I also participated in many field surveys devoted to evaluation of the morphological change of Japanese rivers. These filed measurements mostly aimed to assess the influence of flow regime and sediment supply on aquatic habitat structure and material cycling.

Other Voluntary Research Activities:
1. A series of drop structures along the Kamo River in Kyoto, Japan are the origin of complaints by local residents and fishermen. The drop structures obstruct fish from migrating upstream. To solve this problem, I contributed to the design and construction of a temporary low cost fish passage.
