The program emphasises on the acquisition of knowledge and skills while finding technological solutions for the design of process industry and the process for manufacturing the products. Those were achieved by following advanced courses, workshops and working on several industrial design projects at company’s site. Working on projects has involved designing, analyzing with quantitative and qualitative research information, problem solving and team collaboration. Additionally, a professional development course has also stimulated and developed social and communication skills.

Upon completion of the program successfully, title of PDEng (Professional Doctorate in Engineering) is awarded. Certified diplomas are entered into the register of the Royal Dutch Institute for Engineers (KIvI). My one year placement as product engineer was at a pharmaceutical company, Organon N.V. in Oss.

1 year assignment as Product Developer at Product Technology & Development Group Organon N.V in Oss. My experimental work was focusing on: high shear granulation as part of pharmaceutical manufacturing process, risk assessment in development phase, Process Analytical Technology (PAT) – a shift from quality by inspection to quality by design, linking PAT with quality risk assessment, design of analytical measurement techniques using Near Infra Red Spectroscopy and acoustic emission, and finally assessing PAT tool as process control for high shear granulation. Both techniques can be considered as useful process analyzers and expectantly will lead to increased process understanding and process control in high shear granulation. A good understanding of granulation in development phase and a working process control in small-scale high shear granulator will be valuable for scaling-up in larger machine.

1) Design of Analytical Measurement Technique for High Shear Granulation in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: an Application of Process Analytical Technology (PAT)
Product Design Project, Organon N.V., Oss, the Netherlands, Sep 2004 – Aug 2005.

Project scope was conceptual and experimental design to select a suitable novel monitoring technique, risk assessment to manage variability in the process and product quality, and multivariate data analysis using Unscrambler© statistical software package. I performed experimental work at lab scale GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment and conducted quantitative & qualitative analysis. A positive response was acquired and the study was continued by the company. This graduation work was awarded grade 7.5.


2) Development of Light-Weight Decorative Panels using TRESPA B.V.’s Process
Product Design Project, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, the Netherlands, May 2004.

The main project was to develop and select a suitable process to produce light-weight panels. I was involved in a team conducting market analysis to gather extensive opinions from many sectors (customers, academics, competitors) should the new line of panel is produced. TRESPA gave positive response; recommendation was taken into their account for implementation plan.


3) Manufacture of Styrene Monomer – Dow Process vs ABB Lummus / UOP Technology, Process Design Project, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Nov 2003.

Project consisted of technical and economic feasibility study; from conceptual engineering design using AspenPlus, to capital and operational cost estimation. This project was awarded grade 9.
