Experience
- Optical Engineering R&D Technician, December 2009 – Present
AMO Wavefront Sciences, Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Assisted in the research and development a high-resolution NIR spectrometer for use in a novel spectral domain optical coherence tomography scheme for ophthalmic measurements, including: construction, systems integration, automation, data processing, GUI, and test procedures; authoring technical disclosures and other documentation for new intellectual property.
- Assisted in the development of manufacturing test equipment, authored and executed V/V test plans, protocols, and other documentation in support of design validation and transfer for a next-generation Shack-Hartmann wavefront aberrometer, in preparation for product launch; this medical device is utilized for LASIK surgery.

- Engineering Internship, March 2004 – November 2009
AMO Wavefront Sciences, Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Developed data acquisition and system control software for a custom scanning Shack-Hartmann wavefront system used by Tinsley Labs to characterize and grind the beryllium mirrors for the James Webb Space Telescope.
- Assisted in the research and development of a sub-nanometer precision silicon wafer metrology instrument.
- Developed a data mining and statistical analysis software package for use in quality control.
- Performed statistical analysis with colleagues to improve the manufacturing process of the aforementioned wavefront aberrometer.

- Undergraduate research, June 2009 – July 2009
The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Mentor: Dr. Shilei Zhang
Research focus:
- Assisted in the development of synthetic strategies for creating novel analogues of the drug noscapine.
- Performed syntheses, purifications, and characterization utilizing proton NMR spectroscopy.

- Undergraduate research, August 2008 – December 2008
The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Mentor: Jiang Li
Research focus:
- Assisted in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of coumarin derivatives to evaluate their usefulness in single molecule fluorescent tagging schemes.

- Undergraduate research fellowship, June 2008 – August 2008
The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Mentor: Dr. Lianso Zu
Research focus:
- Characterized organocatalytic reactions involving enamine and iminium compounds. These reactions are useful for creating small organic molecules with one or more chiral centers, with a high degree of enantiomeric excess, under mild reaction conditions.
- Identified reaction products using thin layer chromatography.
- Purified reaction products using a silica gel-packed column.
- Removed solvents from reaction products with a rotavap.
- Utilized chiral HPLC to quantify the enantiomeric excess of various reaction products.
- Assisted in the preparation of samples for proton NMR spectroscopy, and elucidated chemical structures from the resulting spectra.
