DEPARTMENT OF IMMUNOBIOLOGY, GUY’S HOSPITAL, LONDON,
JAN 2010 – JUL 2010
Worked as a Post Graduate Research Trainee responsible for determining the difference between IgA, IgM and IgG antibody responses against pneumococcal vaccination in older and younger adults. Developed assays to determine IgA antibody in the serum samples. Performed ELISAs to detect antibody concentrations in human serum samples (198) at multiple time intervals and used enzyme conjugated secondary antibody and substrate kits. Performed B lymphocyte isolation which included cell banking. Responsible for general housekeeping of the laboratory. Adhered to standard operating and health and safety procedures. Created the project report and presented the same, which was very well acknowledged by the supervisors.
GENE REGULATION LABORATORY, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF IMMUNOLOGY, NEW DELHI, JAN 2009 – JUL 2009
Worked as Graduate Research Trainee in one of India’s most prestigious institutes on developing mechanisms for infectious diseases caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MtB). Worked to clone, express and purify genes encoding E1 and E2 components of peroxynitrite-reductase peroxidase complex occurring in MtB. Performed DNA extraction and plasmid isolation. Used PCR technique to amplify the relevant MtB genes. Performed microbial cell culturing under aseptic conditions. Extensively used chromatography techniques such as affinity using His-tags to purify genes. Utilised SDS-PAGE to determine protein size and location. Maintained log books. Worked with the project team to ensure high scientific standards are maintained throughout the project execution. Prepared buffer solutions and maintained stock levels for whole lab.
